What Local Experts Say
Kabooki Sushi has firmly established itself as the standard-bearer for creative sushi in Central Florida. About Kabooki Sushi
Kabooki Sushi has been a trailblazer in Orlando's sushi scene since Chef Henry Moso opened the original Colonialtown location in 2013 at just 22 years old. Born in Laos and raised across Southeast Asia, Chef Moso sharpened his skills at his mother's restaurants before striking out on his own with a vision for creative, boundary-pushing Japanese cuisine. The restaurant occupies a stylishly renovated space in an unassuming strip mall on East Colonial Drive, where hexagonal tiles, a green living wall, and a neon sign reading "Good Vibes Only" set the tone for an experience that is anything but ordinary. Kabooki's menu blends traditional sushi craftsmanship with Pan-Asian influences, featuring dishes like torched salmon with truffle pate, bluefin sashimi flights, hamachi nigiri with truffled caviar, and uni rice with seared lobster. The omakase experience, offered in both 10- and 15-course formats, showcases the finest seasonal fish sourced from Tokyo's Toyosu Market and local Florida waters. Chef Moso earned a James Beard Award semifinalist nomination for Best Chef: South, and Kabooki holds a MICHELIN recognition in the inaugural Orlando guide. The restaurant also operates a second location in Dr. Phillips on Sand Lake Road, though the Colonial Drive original remains the flagship where the magic started.
